Chinese famille rose jug and cover, Qianlong (1736-95) decorated with’long Elizas’ on a terrace and by a pavilion overlooking a river with flowering lotus, height: 7in. 18cm; condition: neatly sealed hairline to rim and small area to spout filled, minute chip to cover restored. For an illustrated example of a similar jug and cover see’Chine de Commande’ from the Royal Museum of Arts and History, Brussels p. The shape of this jug is derived from a European silver or faience model. The European influence on the jug can also be seen in the garland of flowers around the rim of the jug and cover. Chinese famille rose melon tureen and cover, Qianlong (1736-95), in the form of a melon, with applied vine stems and leaves, decorated with scattered sprigs and sprays of flowers, the finial in the form of a grape or cherry, ; Many examples of 18th century melon tureens were made in English pottery and creamware and are thought to have been based upon Meissen and silverware prototypes. Such items may have been intended as dessert-course novelty items. Restoration to tendrils, chip to stalk, frit to base and fritting to rim of cover. Pair of Chinese famille rose chargers, Qianlong (1736-95), with gently barbed foliate rims, the central cartouches containing lakeside pavilion garden scenes in bright overglaze enamels; one with women and children listening to a to Xiao player underneath a prunus tree, the other with men conversing amongst large wooden barrels and baskets, a further two men visible inside the pavilion conducting business over an assortment of teabowls; the cavettos with four floral sprays inside gilt lambrequin borders, the rims with further gilt lambrequin bands and scrolling floral garlands.
