Beautiful Condition Big Bowl Famille Rose Mille Fleur pattern. This is a hand made bowl each flower hand drawn and enameled not machine made. Can you find the butterfly? Hint: She’s in the Second photo. 1- The surface of the bowl has some gilt wear around the rim. There is a worn spot as indicated in the pics near the rim – worn not chipped. This worn spot reveals a glass like material unlike ceramic being translucent rather than opaque. 2 – The bowl has a double rimmed foot. 3 – The pattern has a “gilt ground” which shows slight age wear. 4 – There are tiny firing imperfections visible under magnification, which indicate this piece was not made in an electric kiln. 5 – Each petal of each hand drawn leaf and flower is an individual brush stroke applied to the bowl and drawn leaving heavy enamel glaze thick enough to feel. 6 – The Flowers are small with only a few exceptions with the few larger being superior quality and highly detailed. 7 – The piece measures 2 1/4 inches tall and almost 11 inches wide and is thick and heavy rather than the large eggshell bowls commonly seen. 8 – The Seal is hand drawn not a stamp, for Emperor Qianlong as is customary in the Chinese tradition to honor a King or Master rather than makers signing their own name. This is a finely crafted bowl, which was given time and attention to detail from the large center Peony right down to the neatly hand drawn under glaze Qianlong seal.
