Chinese Cockerel & Cat teapot. Famille rose. C. 1740. Qianlong

A rare Chinese porcelain teapot, c. Hand painted to both sides, in fencai, or famille rose enamels, with a repeated, unusual scene of a cockerel , perched upon rocks, being pursued by a yellow cat. The cockerel, beneath an oversized flowering plant, the cat beneath a large pomegranite. The lightly domed cover, painted with sprigs of flowering plants, and having a knop finial, painted with a flower head. 10 cm, 3 7/8. 13 cm, 5 1/8. 9 cm, 3 1/2. A Rare Set – Chinese Qianlong Period Famille Rose Cockerel Cup and Saucer. Condition: Both in almost perfect condition, very small nibble to the foot rim of the cup, very small nibbles to back of saucer rim, some firing faults and rubbing to the enamel. Please exam all the photos carefully which forms part of this description. Dimension: cup – 8.2cm diameter, 4.2cm high; saucer – 13.2cm diameter. All description provided here is based on my knowledge on Chinese Art and History. All antique items will have the signs of use, for example – surface dust or dirt, utensil scratches, gilt wear, stilt marks, light natural crazing and firing faults, rubbing to decoration, small scratches and marks to the surface – none of the above is damage but part of the aging, use or manufacturing process of an antique item.
