The painting shows a man giving a woman a’piggyback’ – that is the English term for giving somebody a’ride’ on your back. They are having a good time and 3 other people are watching in a courtyard. The handle portrays a dragon eating its tail. Very good condition, some slight frits to the rim. Good gilding, some slight paint losses. No hairlines, no restoration. This is a very good 19th century Chinese Export, (Cantonese) deep plate or dish, which we date to the early 19th century, circa 1820 of the Qing dynasty. The plate has a light green, Celadon ground glaze with beautifully hand painted decoration, in over-glaze poly-chrome enamels of the Famille-Rose palette, featuring a bird, peony, lotus, fruits, butterflies and other flowers. The rim is hand painted in a café-au-lait light brown finish There is an under-glaze, cobalt blue square seal mark, hand painted to the base. Measures 10.25 inches across and 1.5 inches high.
