This is a pair of 18th century Qianlong era famille rose porcelain figurines – laughing man or boy, handpainted and glazed in rich colors – one of imperial yellow, the other green, both, in one hand holding an auspacious object called “Ruyi” and the other holding a gourd or seemingly a fruit. Both wear traditional Chinese silk garbs with a bat – ” fu” design and typical QIng Manchu collars. The garb are shown with finely stiched dotted lines The green on, on the back again shows a bat – fu, bat similar to that of the sound happiness or luck symbol, and the yellow one, on the back are dotted with florial designs and green leaves. Bat patterns are used to represent the five blessings: health, long life, prosperity, love of virtue. This is a very rare pair that come with two different colors.
