Large Rare Chinese Export White Famille Rose Gu Vase Qianlong Period (1736-1795)
An exceptionally large and rare Chinese export white famille rose’gu’ vase, exemplary of Chinese export decoration wares catered to the European market taste. The age of the vase can be dated to Qianlong period as the decorative motifs and styles are stereotypical of the period. The form of the vase,’Gu’ form for vases with wide top rim and foot with slender body is originated from archaic Gu vessel which were designed and used for wine drinking. Vase like this usually come in pairs with additional complementary pair of lidded jars making a full set. Garnitures set like these were extremely popular in Europe and the stylistic designs of export wares were often manufactured to the taste of European market by Canton workshops commissioned by the East India Company. The manufacturing process of this kind of vase is multi-stepped and complex. Such famille rose decorations often utilizes imported European color pigments and materials, giving these export wares a unique and distinguishable look. Overall Height: 18 inch / 45.7 cm.
