Rare Antique Chinese Canton Enamel Copper Lotus Dish Famille Verte Shou Lao

Extremely rare antique Chinese Canton enamel famille verte dish in the form of a lotus blossom. The central roundel depicts the God of Longevity, Shou Lao. Shoulao (Shou Lao) is recognizable by his tall, over sized forehead. Representing wisdom and long beard representing long life. He is sitting at a rock formation beneath a tall pine tree. He has a gourd containing elixir tied to his staff and a scroll in his right hand. It is quite rare to see Shou Lao with a scroll. To the right of Shou Lao there are two deer, which also are symbols of long life. To the left there is a figure possibly a scholar, either sitting or kneeling. The radiating petals in’famille verte’ palette are decorated with pink flowers and blue-green foliage. The reverse is turquoise enamel. The unusual shape and colours of this dish make me think. That it might be from the Qianlong period (1736-95). At the widest point it measures 19cm in diameter. Condition: The outer border has enamel loss and cracks which reveal the copper below. The centre roundel does not have any enamel loss, but has fine star cracks. This item is described as accurately as possible but. Lovely 18th century dish with a Meissen style decoration of Peter the Great of Russia. In the front There is a woman holding a baby. (Possibly) depecting the undercover trip of Peter Peter the Great to the Netherlands. Really cool and detailed pieces. Pictures in natural light have been added. Trip of Peter the Great Peter had met the Zaandam blacksmith and craftsman Gerrit Kist when Kist had worked for the tsar in Moscow. Upon visiting the Zaanstreek, Peter insisted on staying with Kist in his home, despite Kist’s protests that his house was a mere hovel, shared with the widow of one of his workers. The widow was paid to move out, and Peter spent a week as Kist’s houseguest. The tsar was traveling incognito under the name Peter Michaeloff. And while Kist did not reveal his guest’s identity it did not take long for Peter to be recognized, making his observations difficult. Peter wanted to learn more about the Dutch shipbuilding industry, and with this knowledge (and other knowledge acquired during the Grand Embassy) begin a period of modernization and growth in Russia. At this time, the Dutch Republic was one of the most developed countries in the world. Although he remained at the house only a short time, he would return a number of times, the last in 1717. Fine Antiques & Jewellery. Chinese Famille Rose Dish. A late 18th or early 19th century Chinese porcelain hand painted shaped dish in the famille rose pallette. It is of ovoid form with protrusions around the rim and a decorative border with gilt. It is hand painted with floral motifs over the plain white ground. The body is porcelain and quite thick with a yellow tint to the translucency. There are no character or reign marks and the ground is a little rippled as often found with pieces from this period. Normal period wear, slight losses to enamels and gilt rubbing. Slight production flaws as usual with some small glaze pops. Some discolouration to the underside through aging.
