This antique, 18th century, Chinese Export porcelain cream jug with its lid, comes from what is known as the Chien Lung period in China. The cream jug is made in the classic melon shape with what is known as a sparrow beak. The delightful and classical pattern of sprigs of rose, pink flowers, known as Famille Rose pattern, and the vivid puce and pink diaper border, always make an appealing jug. This is why the West loved importing this precious ware. The colours are still unfaded and much of the jug is in good condition. The lid also has had restoration. It measures 6″ (15cm) high and from the jug’s belly to the handle it is 4″ (10cm) wide and its diameter is 1 ½ (3.5cm). Although there has been restoration on this piece, (my price reflects this) it is still a very lovely, desirable piece of Chinese Export ware and a lovely addition to any collection.

An exceptionally large and rare Chinese export white famille rose’gu’ vase, exemplary of Chinese export decoration wares catered to the European market taste. The age of the vase can be dated to Qianlong period as the decorative motifs and styles are stereotypical of the period. The form of the vase,’Gu’ form for vases with wide top rim and foot with slender body is originated from archaic Gu vessel which were designed and used for wine drinking. Vase like this usually come in pairs with additional complementary pair of lidded jars making a full set. Garnitures set like these were extremely popular in Europe and the stylistic designs of export wares were often manufactured to the taste of European market by Canton workshops commissioned by the East India Company. The manufacturing process of this kind of vase is multi-stepped and complex. Such famille rose decorations often utilizes imported European color pigments and materials, giving these export wares a unique and distinguishable look. Overall Height: 18 inch / 45.7 cm. Chinese porcelain famille rose plates, Qianlong. One painted to the interior with with a garden terrace scene depicting a blue pierced rock-work, flowering peony and other plants, wooden fence surrounded by a band narrow band with four bats alternating with green stripes with swirls of grass. Border decorated in strong enamels with flowers. Other with a very similar décor, but centered medallion depicting a turquoise vase and flowering plants. Diameter – 15,9 / 16,2 cm; height – 3,3 / 3,2 cm. Weight – 177 / 198 g. Conditions report: one with two hairlines from the edge and short star-harline to the base, tiny chip to the rim.
