Chinese Blue White Botanical Plate after Maria Sybille Merian Qianlong (1736-95). The fine, briskly executed brushwork depicts flowering roses and. Enclosed by an cobalt a broad band of elaborate strap work, stylized pomegranate and bats at the border. She later published a book of her drawings. Published in Holland in 1705 and in France in 1771 with the title. Histoire Générale des Insectes de Surinam et de toute l’Europe. It is not know which source had been used, as the complete image is not found in her books. Acquired from the charming Tudor Manor House in Southern England, this unique collection of high-quality porcelain pieces is now offered for sale. Finely potted, of elegantly curving charger form, the steep, gently flaring sides sweeping to an everted rim, all supported on a slightly splayed base, the interior superbly enameled with a scene featuring the scholar’s in the room watching children plays, all surrounded by varying diaper border as Buddhist symbols.
